Division Aims to Knockout Heart Disease
March 15, 2012

Division Avenue students fundraise for the AHA
In conjunction with Spirit Week, the 1st Annual Hoops for Heart Knockout Tournament was held at Division Avenue High School on February 28 th. Student Council Vice President, James Reilly spearheaded the event and, with help from his fellow officers, organized a hugely successful fundraiser. Over 125 DAHS students gathered after school to participate in a ferocious, but fun-filled basketball tourney in support of the American Heart Association. The AHA's mission is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke; and charitable funds help to pay the cost of medicines and treatments for kids with special hearts. Division Avenue students solicited donations in advance of the tournament, and raised nearly $2000 for this worthy organization. The tournament winner, Ryan Birmingham, will receive an engraved brick on the Division Avenue Dragon Path. DAHS hopes to make Hoops for Heart a true "knockout" for years to come.
