Division Avenue's Future Scientists
Two Division Avenue students, Justin Khan and Ryan Alvarez, attended the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders conference presented by the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists. From June 29th ?" July 1st, Justin and Ryan listened to various speakers with the theme of "Greatness Awaits."
Justin Khan, a 12th grade student, feels that the conference will help him follow the right career. His favorite experience was meeting Dr. Sean Stephenson, a therapeutic life coach diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta. Dr. Stephenson travels the world presenting motivational speeches regarding his battle and triumph with the rare bone disorder. Justin reflected, "My favorite part of the conference was Sean Stephenson. What he was able to do with all the disadvantages he had really showed me that there are no excuses. Even though he was just 3 feet tall, I wish that I could be half the man that he is."
Ryan Alvarez, an 11th grade student, enjoyed meeting computer scientists and chemists. Most notably, Ryan cited meeting the 1979 Nobel Prize winner in Physics, Dr. Sheldon Glashow, as a motivating factor. Ryan shared, "I enjoyed the experience because I was able to meet like-minded people who share the same interests as me and being able to get to know them was easier once we talked about our interests. The environment facilitated this."
Division Avenue looks forward to both Justin and Ryan's burgeoning science careers!
