The distribution of these items will be a drive through at Division Avenue High School with more specific details being shared in the coming weeks.

Friday, May 22, 2020

Dear Parents and Members of the Class of 2020,

As always, we hope that this letter finds you and your families safe, and doing well. Although we know this has been a difficult senior year for you, we are extremely proud of how you have risen to the challenge during this unprecedented time. As a district, we have been diligently planning to provide you with a memorable graduation experience that will be kept within the safety guidelines set forth by the Governor's office. This still has to be our first concern as you share that moment with family and fellow students.

Over the past few weeks, we have been communicating with the community, students, and fellow colleagues on how we can best provide our senior class with a proper graduation ceremony. We are sincerely grateful for those conversations and the time you spent completing the survey that was distributed online. We have taken your feedback to formulate three plans for this year's graduation ceremony.

The first plan is to have an in-person yet socially distant live graduation at Hofstra University on July 30th. We are awaiting a time from Hofstra. This plan is our first preference as this has been a Levittown tradition. This scenario allows for two guests per graduate permitted into the David S. Mack Arena at Hofstra University. Of course, this plan is contingent on the guidelines set forth by the Governor at the time.

If we are unable to have a live indoor ceremony at Hofstra, but have permission to use an outdoor venue, we have created a back-up plan. In this case, we will have an in-person yet socially distant live graduation on the football field at Levittown Memorial Education Center on July 28th at 7:00 PM with a rain date of July 30th at 7:00 PM. As with the first option, each graduate will be allowed to bring only two guests.

Should we not be able to gather for an in person ceremony, we have created a third plan. We would have a virtual graduation with all speeches and graduation rituals pre-recorded. This would be released on July 30th at 7:30 PM. Of course this option is a last resort and will only occur if the Governor's restrictions are still in place in July.

Each plan's logistics is rather intricate. Given the ever-evolving nature of the pandemic, we feel it would be premature to distribute specific detailed plans for graduation provided that we may have to alter them as restrictions may or may not change in the future.

I want to reassure you that graduation is a matter of the greatest importance to the Division Avenue High School community and myself. Over the course of the next eight weeks we will closely monitor the Governor's restrictions and make the best possible decision to provide your child the experience they have earned and deserve.

I hope to see you all soon!

Stay strong! Stay safe!

Sincerely,
John Coscia
Principal

Monday, May 4th, 2020

Good evening,

This is John Coscia, principal of Division Avenue High School with an importance message regarding remote instruction.

We hope this message finds you and your families safe and healthy.

As you may have heard, Governor Cuomo has extended the closure of schools through the end of the school year. Please know that we are developing plans for allowing students the opportunity to pick up their personal belongings. We'll reach out to you next week with additional information.

As we continue on our journey of distant learning, you may have noticed that many teachers began phasing in live sessions to their current remote learning tools via the Zoom platform. Live sessions will continue to develop for all classes over the upcoming weeks, so please be on the lookout for information regarding these on teacher Edmodo pages. In addition, you will find two important resources on the Division Avenue webpage under the coronavirus resources link in regards to utilizing the zoom technology. One is in reference to student and parent expectations as well as the code of conduct for remote learning , and the other is a tutorial for how to use Zoom. If you, or your child, have questions or concerns please contact teachers through the messaging system in Edmodo or via district email. We appreciate your anticipated patience and consideration as we all navigate through this challenging new way of teaching and learning together. Enjoy your evening and the remainder of your weekend.
