Division Ave. Coronavirus Resources and Updates

Tuesday, June 16, 2020

I hope this message finds you and your families well. On the morning of June 17th from 11:00 to 1:00 pm, we will be having a drive through parade at Division Avenue High School to distribute yearbooks, gifts, caps and gowns to celebrate our seniors.

We will be utilizing the south driveway heading towards the baseball field and releasing students through the tri-county gates. Once students enter the driveway there will be two stations set up. The first will stop will be located just outside of the flex lab where the students will remain in their car to receive their items. The second stop will be located just outside of the art wing. Here, students will step out of their car to sign a banner that will be hung at the graduation ceremony. From there they will exit through the tri-county gates.

If you have any questions please email me

Good evening everyone, this is John Coscia principal of Division Avenue with important information regarding graduation.

Please understand that we will be moving forward with both the virtual graduation recordings and the live graduation ceremonies planned for late July. While we are very hopeful that a live graduation will be legal at the end of July, we must also prepare for the virtual ceremony in the event that the governor decides to cancel live outdoor graduations and large gatherings due to a potential spike in covid-19 cases in mid July. Even if we have a live ceremony everyone will receive a copy of the virtual graduation as a gift. Please remember that your assigned recording time for June 19th is posted on the Division Avenue Coronavirus resources page.

Thank you

This is John Coscia with important information regarding our upcoming graduation ceremony.

We have received guidance from the Governor's office that graduation ceremonies in June are still prohibited. However, please be assured that we are proceeding with our plan for a live in-person graduation in late July for our fantastic seniors.

With that in mind, we must take precaution and also prepare for a virtual graduation in the event that in person ceremonies and large gatherings are still prohibited at that time.

Part of our plan includes filming our graduates walking across the stage in the Division Avenue High School auditorium in their caps and gowns to receive diplomas from their family members. Afterwards, students and their family members will move to the large gym for a graduation picture with Irvin Simon.

This process is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 19th. Please refer to our Graduation Ceremony Update letter for specific information regarding the date and time slot of your recording.

Tuesday, June 2, 2020

Next week, from June 8th to June 11th we will begin to collect textbooks and calculators. Please note that only seniors must also return their 1-1 tablets. In order to mitigate crowds we will follow the same student schedule that was assigned for the item retrieval process. Please refer to the link on the right titled School Book and Materials Return for specific directions and your assigned time to return your items.

Second, The NY State Department of Education has taken action to allow student athletes to participate in the fall 2020 sports season if they have previously had a health examination for school attendance in the 2018-2019 or 2019-2020 school years. Please see our website for additional information and look for updates regarding fall sports in the near future. Our Family ID system will be available by the end of this week.

Good evening everyone this is John Coscia principal of Division Avenue High School with some exciting updates regarding senior events.

Due to production delays, we had to move back the distribution of yearbooks, caps and gowns as well as a few other surprises to this spectacular class to June 16th from 11am - 1pm. The distribution of these items will be a drive through at Division Avenue High School with more specific details being shared in the coming weeks.

In addition, On June 11th we will be honoring our best seniors by posting the virtual senior awards ceremony on the Division Avenue website at 7:00 pm for all to enjoy.

Friday, May 22, 2020

Dear Parents and Members of the Class of 2020,

As always, we hope that this letter finds you and your families safe, and doing well. Although we know this has been a difficult senior year for you, we are extremely proud of how you have risen to the challenge during this unprecedented time. As a district, we have been diligently planning to provide you with a memorable graduation experience that will be kept within the safety guidelines set forth by the Governor's office. This still has to be our first concern as you share that moment with family and fellow students.

Over the past few weeks, we have been communicating with the community, students, and fellow colleagues on how we can best provide our senior class with a proper graduation ceremony. We are sincerely grateful for those conversations and the time you spent completing the survey that was distributed online. We have taken your feedback to formulate three plans for this year's graduation ceremony.

The first plan is to have an in-person yet socially distant live graduation at Hofstra University on July 30th. We are awaiting a time from Hofstra. This plan is our first preference as this has been a Levittown tradition. This scenario allows for two guests per graduate permitted into the David S. Mack Arena at Hofstra University. Of course, this plan is contingent on the guidelines set forth by the Governor at the time.

If we are unable to have a live indoor ceremony at Hofstra, but have permission to use an outdoor venue, we have created a back-up plan. In this case, we will have an in-person yet socially distant live graduation on the football field at Levittown Memorial Education Center on July 28th at 7:00 PM with a rain date of July 30th at 7:00 PM. As with the first option, each graduate will be allowed to bring only two guests.

Should we not be able to gather for an in person ceremony, we have created a third plan. We would have a virtual graduation with all speeches and graduation rituals pre-recorded. This would be released on July 30th at 7:30 PM. Of course this option is a last resort and will only occur if the Governor's restrictions are still in place in July.

Each plan's logistics is rather intricate. Given the ever-evolving nature of the pandemic, we feel it would be premature to distribute specific detailed plans for graduation provided that we may have to alter them as restrictions may or may not change in the future.

I want to reassure you that graduation is a matter of the greatest importance to the Division Avenue High School community and myself. Over the course of the next eight weeks we will closely monitor the Governor's restrictions and make the best possible decision to provide your child the experience they have earned and deserve.

I hope to see you all soon!

Stay strong! Stay safe!

Sincerely,
John Coscia
Principal

Good evening,

This is John Coscia, principal of Division Avenue High School with an importance message regarding remote instruction.

We hope this message finds you and your families safe and healthy.

As you may have heard, Governor Cuomo has extended the closure of schools through the end of the school year. Please know that we are developing plans for allowing students the opportunity to pick up their personal belongings. We'll reach out to you next week with additional information.

As we continue on our journey of distant learning, you may have noticed that many teachers began phasing in live sessions to their current remote learning tools via the Zoom platform. Live sessions will continue to develop for all classes over the upcoming weeks, so please be on the lookout for information regarding these on teacher Edmodo pages. In addition, you will find two important resources on the Division Avenue webpage under the coronavirus resources link in regards to utilizing the zoom technology. One is in reference to student and parent expectations as well as the code of conduct for remote learning , and the other is a tutorial for how to use Zoom. If you, or your child, have questions or concerns please contact teachers through the messaging system in Edmodo or via district email. We appreciate your anticipated patience and consideration as we all navigate through this challenging new way of teaching and learning together. Enjoy your evening and the remainder of your weekend.
