Kindergarten students from East Broadway Elementary School kicked off the month of October with fall-inspired lessons and engaging hands-on projects to enhance their math, reading/writing and social studies skills.
With the help of their teachers, classes worked on letter and sound recognition and reading comprehension skills. This included completing worksheets such as a matching letter-to-picture pumpkin activity. They also enjoyed reading with their teachers. To better understand sequence, some classes used a felt board to retell stories with pictures.
In addition, classes continued to celebrate Johnny Appleseed's birthday by creating a paper apple and labeling the parts. During social studies, students embraced the power of kindness and learned the importance of respect. This included taking The Pledge of Kindness where students wrote their names in a heart and added it to the pledge.
In math, East Broadway kindergartners enhanced their number skills with hands-on math stations that reinforced greater than, less than and equal to. It has been a great start to the school year as these students continue to grow each day.
