New Faculty Joins GC Tech Family

New Faculty Joins GC Tech Family - image001
The district in pleased to announce that Lauren Reganato, culinary arts instructor and Scott Downs, police science and emergency medical technician instructor, have joined the Gerald R. Claps Career and Technical Center family at the start of the 2018-2019 school year.

Ms. Reganato, a Franklin Square resident, formerly worked in the Lynbrook Public Schools as a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher for nine years. She also currently teaches as an adjunct professor of food science at Queens College.

Ms. Reganato attended culinary school at the New York Institute of Technology and received her Associate of Occupational Studies and Bachelors of Interdisciplinary Studies in hospitality management, communications and fine arts. She also holds a master's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education from Queens College. Her wealth of knowledge in the culinary field stems from her experience as a personal chef, working small in-home catering events, facilitating private cooking lessons and teaching adult education in culinary.

Mr. Downs, a Hauppauge resident, was formerly an instructor at the Jacob Javits Law Academy at Francis Lewis High School. He has also served as a social studies teacher focusing on law, government and economics at Richmond Hill High School and was a police science and homeland security teacher at Nassau BOCES. In addition, Mr. Downs was an assistant professor in the criminal justice department at Briarcliffe College, was a content expert writer for Law Enforcement Today Magazine, was the director of operations of a national security company and was a New York State Division of Criminal Justice instructor.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Joseph's College in education/history in the Adolescence Education Program, a certificate of Applied Science with Distinction: Homeland Security Management from LIU Riverhead, a certificate of Applied Science with Distinction: Emergency Management from Frederick Community College and his Master of Science degree in Homeland Security Management from LIU Riverhead.

The district is thrilled to welcome both instructors to Levittown!
