A Message From the Principal

Dear Parents,

As we move into the final marking period and head towards graduation in June, I still have many things to tell you about the wonderful achievements of MacArthur students and faculty.

Christopher Mirasola, with an average of 100.1699, and Emily Melvin, with an average of 99.4737, were announced as the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the Class of 2008.

The Generals Wrestling team defeated top-seeded Uniondale in the Dual Meet Championship Finals by a score of 46-13. Outstanding matches were played by juniors Vinny Coiro, Ariel Guerrero, and Brandon Mulholland. This is MacArthur's seventh Nassau County Dual Meet Title in the last eight seasons. The Generals went on to win the Nassau County tournament by defeating every other team in the county by 50 points.

The annual Senior Academy Awards presentation and dinner dance was held in Cafeteria A. Senior celebrities were awarded with trophies that are now affectionately known as a “Douglas.”

The Broadcast Club premiered its Internet news broadcast highlighting important events that have occurred during the school year. Under the guidance of advisors, Mr. Bill Farney and Mr. Vin Causeman, members of the broadcast club include Jacque DeLorenzo, Michael Gattus, Dylan Saccone, Maria Valanzano, and Jessica Vitolo. The broadcast may be seen on the district website.

The Spring Renaissance Breakfast was held celebrating the academic accomplishments of over 900 students. Special congratulations were made to the 91 seniors who became 4 year cardholders.

Technology students participated in the F.I.R.S.T. Robotics competition at Hofstra. Our team, The 1358 Generals, were honored with the Judges Merit Award.

The Musical Theatre performance “Once on this Island” was presented to enthusiastic audiences. This delightful Caribbean musical was directed and choreographed by Paige Hardison.

The third annual March Madness Badminton Tournament was held to fundraise for Habitat for Humanity. Sixty-four student-teacher teams competed for the prized Badminton Championship Belt, which was won by Vinnie Causeman (third year running) and his partner, senior Maria Valanzano.

Hope the remainder of your school year is a wonderful one!
