Actor Noah Racey, who starred in the original Broadway production of Curtains, recently facilitated a workshop with the Division Avenue High School cast of Curtains, a production planned for March 18, 19 and 20 at the high school.
On February 13th the MacArthur cheerleading team made its debut at UCA's (Universal Cheerleading Association) National Cheerleading Competition in Disneyworld.
The Salk Winter 2010 Production of Seussical The Musical proved to set new performance standards for students as the cast and production crew was called back to stage for numerous encores!! The musical production was an effort of both students and teachers on and off stage, under the direction of Mrs. Levenberg and Mrs. Plank.
On Tuesday, February 9 a group of sixth grade students from Ms. Keeley, Ms. Mo, Ms. Curran, Mr. Kempinski, and Mrs. Temme’s classes attended a field trip to the Fortune Wheel Restaurant as a follow-up to a short story read in reading/ language arts class, "The All American Slurp."

The MacArthur Generals baseball program is proud to announce that senior Matt DiBiase has accepted a combined baseball and academic scholarship to the New York Institute of Technology, a Division I baseball program with a strong tradition of excellence.
The 7th grade boys basketball team finished an undefeated season winning all eleven of their games. Season highlights included the defeat of an extremely talented Berner Middle School Team by a score of 45 - 44.

19 Division Avenue High School students competed in the annual DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) Regional competition on Saturday, January 9th at Nassau Community College. Of those competitors, 10 qualified for the State Event held in Rochester, NY on March 10th through the 12th.

Division Avenue High School was recently honored with the announcement that of 53 Long Island Semi-Finalists in the Coca-Cola Scholars Program, Division Avenue High School was the only Nassau County high school to be able to claim four such awards.
The MacArthur Varsity Cheerleaders have plenty to cheer about. As a competitive team, the girls excelled this year, placing in the top three of the Long Island Cheerleading Finals. In the MacArthur classrooms, the cheerleaders maintained a combined team grade point average of 88.1.

During the thanksgiving holiday the students of Salk were challenged to collect food for the community. In order to motivate the level of giving, Salk's Assistant Principal, Pat Mulligan, awarded the class who collected the most food the privilege of shaving all his hair off of his head!!
Jonas E. Salk Middle School completed their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive collecting over 3500 items that will be distributed to families within our community for the holidays. Salk's generosity has been the most impressive in recent memory.

Senior Economics students at MacArthur High School held their third annual Haunted House Fundraiser on Thursday October 22nd to support Habitat for Humanity.

Wisdom Lane Middle School raised $1,000 for UNICEF in October. That $1,000 will provide 550 children with measles immunizations, 80 children with emergency blankets, nutrition for 100 kids and clean drinking water for 500.
Although Fall sports are over for the high schools, that didn’t keep the gymnasium at DAHS from pulsating with laughter and swinging badminton racquets after school hours as once again DAHS held its annual Badminton Tournament to raise funds for the Doug Robins Memorial Scholarship.
A U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran and a NYPD Highway Patrol Officer visited the class the day before Veterans Day. They explained to our class about the importance of why we honor veterans on Nov. 11th of every year.

Coming off an inaugural campaign last season, the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams have made great progress this season as they raced against some of the premier cross country programs teams in Nassau County.
The MacArthur Environmental Club, advised by Mr. David Friedman, has donated $250 to Doctors Without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization which assists people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe.
On October 24th the MacArthur baseball program held its first annual Alumni Day. Over 50 former players participated in some aspect of the day's activities.

The Guatemalan educators visited Northside, met with teachers, students and Principal, Keith Squillacioti, to gain insight into current practices in U.S. education.

During Summer 2009 DAHS students did not take a vacation from community service. Instead, led by two students who spearheaded a food drive for the St. Bernard’s Pantry under the direction of Sister Christine Sammons, OP, eight additional students joined together to circulate fliers, collect bagged food, check donations for expiration dates and deliver usable food to St. Bernard’s where it will be distributed to those in need.
Division Avenue High School Social Studies Chairperson Melissa Sorgen, along with Guidance Counselor Lynn Castellano, and teachers Frank Harris and Lauren Gandino, escorted fifty students to the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia on Oct. 28th.

Summit Lane first graders visited White Post Farms on October 22, 2009 for a day full of fall fun. This trip was a culmination of many lessons about pumpkins.

On October 20, 2009 Salk's Earth Science and ESL students went on the Science department's yearly excursion to the Sunken Forest on Fire Island. Their day started out with an 8:15 AM bus pick up to catch at 9:30 AM boat ride from Sayville.
The National Red Ribbon Campaign honors the Federal Agent Enrigque Camarena who was murdered by drug traffickers. Red Ribbons are worn throughout schools nationwide to symbolize unification against drugs and "anti-destructive decisions" against tobacco, alcohol, harassment and bullying.
On Friday, October 23rd, 2009, Summit Lane Kindergartners had their annual “Fall Day.” In addition to participating in crafts and activities throughout the school day, the Kindergartners and several DLC students had the opportunity to see Joe, the singing bus driver.
As Homecoming season arrives, so do the annual Pep Rallies; however, this year DAHS stepped theirs up with a new touch by holding it outdoors on the turf field.
MacArthur Senior Chaimaa Makoudi was honored to present a lecture, to both students and faculty, at the Farmingdale State College Institute for Research and Technology Transfer on October 21st.
On Tuesday October 13th, the MacArthur Varsity Cheerleading Team, coached by Lisa Nessler, held a fundraiser for Breast Cancer research. The cheerleaders sold over 250 pink hair extensions to students, faculty members and teachers at $10.00 per hair piece.
The MacArthur Girls Varsity Tennis Team, coached by Tara Preston, clinched the Conference 4A Championship on Wednesday October 21st by defeating Clarke 5 to 2. Their playoff performance was the culmination of a competitive season, with the ladies maintaining their undefeated record of 12 wins and 0 losses.
Gardiners Avenue School was recognized for it's wonderful literacy programs and the students' love of reading. The New York Islanders honored the school on October 20th.

The children in Mrs. Gunning's math class at Abbey Lane Elementray School participated in creating hundreds numbers using numbered die. They then rounded those numbers to the nearest hundred using their rounding rules.
On October 23rd, students at Abbey Lane Elementary School participated in assemblies presented by the New York Islanders Organization on the value of team work.
Mrs. Caserta’s class (Tony Perretta, Peter Timinelli, Vanessa Grogan and Robert Wetzel) at Abbey Lane School celebrated Columbus Day by making Columbus Day hats.
On Tuesday, October 20, 2009, Summit Lane held a blood drive for the New York Blood Center. Many Summit Lane teachers and parents donated their time and blood to help out this cause.
The kindergarten students at Abbey Lane School were recently visited by the Levittown Firefighters. The students learned about fire safety and prevention.
On Tuesday, September 29th, Geraldine Farmer-Morrison and Joan Galante of the Levittown Public Library visited Salk Middle School to talk to the ESL students about all the great services the community public library has to offer.
2009 MacArthur graduate and Intel Semifinalist, Michael Sullivan, received renewed honors for his psychological research into racism in English sport and society.
In September 2006, the Levittown school District replaced mailed sex offender notifications with a new e-mail notification system developed by Parents for Megan’s Law (PFML). Funded by county, state and federal governments, PFML is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of childhood sexual abuse through the provision of education, advocacy, counseling, policy and legislative support services.
Every year thousands of Division Avenue H.S. alumni, students and friends enter the High School Complex for athletic events, community activities and academic events. The brick "Dragon Path" will be a highly visible and permanent testimony to the community’s loyalty to Division Avenue High School.
On Wednesday, October 7th, Division Avenue High School’s Dance class, under the direction of Ms. Alice LoGiudice, participated in a Zumba class led by a certified guest instructor, Ms. Gillian Hanna. Mr. John Bifolco, Principal of General Douglas MacArthur High School, announced today that Nora McKinnell, Michael Reilly, and Randi Saunders have been named Commended Students in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented by the principal.
The Levittown School District has received a notice of claim from the Massapequa School District. In this action, the Massapequa School District claims that, for several years, the tuition that Levittown charged Massapequa was more than allowed by a general out-of-district-tuition formula provided by the New York State Education Department.
