In September 2006, the Levittown school District replaced mailed sex offender notifications with a new e-mail notification system developed by Parents for Megan’s Law (PFML). Funded by county, state and federal governments, PFML is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of childhood sexual abuse through the provision of education, advocacy, counseling, policy and legislative support services.

On Friday, June 11, 2010, Summit Lane held their annual Field Day. As the weather held out this year, all students enjoyed participating in their events that they have been practicing in Physical Education. Both teams, sporting the school colors blue and white, showed terrific sportsmanship throughout the day.

Fifteen ninth grade students at MacArthur High School were acknowledged as Freshman Stars for 2010 by their teachers and building administrators. Each was considered a "step above the rest" for their spirit and behavior throughout their transition year to high school.

Paula Crayon is a Northside teacher who has taught grades K, 2, 3 and 5 during her nineteen years of service in the Levittown Public Schools. She has just published her first book, An Angel in My Pocket.

On Monday, April 12, 2009 Ain Gulamhussein participated in the Levittown Public Library Storytelling Festival. Ain did an incredible job representing Division Avenue High School as she performed The Little Red Hen by Randall.
Five ensembles from the Division Avenue High School Music Department, including: Concert Band, String Orchestra, 9-10 Chorus, 11-12 Chorus and the Chamber Singers were recently awarded a total of six trophies at their competition in Williamsburg, Virginia on April 16-18.
On Wednesday, April 21, the four DLC Classes at Summit Lane performed in the First Annual DLC Cultural Arts Presentation. With the help of Miss Koncick (music) and Miss Winter (art), students sang, danced, played instruments, played singing games, and shared artwork with their families, teachers, and administrators. The cafeteria was decorated with four banners, one made by each class, and student artwork. After the wonderful performance, everyone enjoyed refreshments. It was a huge success!
On Wednesday, May 12th, 2010, Summit Lane's PTA held its annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon. Our PTA mothers decorated the all-purpose room beautifully and parents sent in an abundance of delicious dishes, drinks and deserts for the staff to enjoy!

The Nassau County Principals' Association has announced the recipient of their annual scholarship award. This year's winner, Michael Comuniello, joins last year's winner, Owen Jappen, as an outstanding senior honored by this professional group of administrators.

Three sophomore art students at MacArthur High School won Jurors' Awards in a global arts contest called "What About Peace?" Alyssa Hughes (poster/graphic), Kimberly Heinau (painting), and Megan Dockweiler (painting) participated, with teacher Tom Bobal's encouragement, in the competition for which students, aged 14-20, from around the world are invited to offer new ideas and constructs for peace through painting, video, photography, graphics, poetry, essay, short story, and music.

EMTs Andrew Gabor and Claudia Rugel from Station 32 were called to help a man who fell in an apartment in Brooklyn, but they ended up saving the lives of five people - including an infant - from a dangerous carbon monoxide (CO) condition on Sept. 18.

Over the past few years with the help of the Federal Perkins Grant program, GC-Tech has purchased a variety of instruction equipment. The latest initiative is to purchase GREEN energy trainers.
Division Avenue High School Senior and Valedictorian Michael Comuniello has been named a winner of a $20,000 Coca-Cola Scholarship, one of only 53 awarded in the nation from among an initial pool of more than 80,000 applicants representing nearly 23,000 high schools nationwide.

On Saturday March 20th, fifteen MacArthur Economics students, accompanied by their teacher Ms. Dana Fritch, swung sledge hammers and picked up debris to help renovate a home in Bay Shore for a future Habitat for Humanity homeowner.
The Salk Wrestling Team won an exciting match over Wisdom Lane 40-27 on March 17th. The Seahawks were losing 21-0, until Anthony Mondella and John Dougherty came up with two pins to close the gap.
Sixth Grade students recently participated in an annual Intergenerational Writing Project that culminated with a visitation to the Highfield Garden Senior Care Center in Great Neck.

The National PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students. The Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme, while increasing community awareness on the importance of the arts in education.
The students at Salk Middle School participated in the annual "Trivia Challenge Contest" sponsored by the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County.

Wisdom qualified for the State Tournament for the seventh straight year while winning 32 medals in twelve out of eighteen different events. Out of the 43 teams that competed, Wisdom finished 2nd and 6th overall.
The Gerald R. Claps Career & Technical Center Key Club researched and organized a “Sock Puppet” activity to benefit the children of St. Jude’s Hospital. Sock puppets, or puppets in general, are used as a therapeutic tool to aid in the treatment of children with emotional issues.

Actor Noah Racey, who starred in the original Broadway production of Curtains, recently facilitated a workshop with the Division Avenue High School cast of Curtains, a production planned for March 18, 19 and 20 at the high school.

The MacArthur Varsity Cheerleaders have plenty to cheer about. As a competitive team, the girls excelled this year, placing in the top three of the Long Island Cheerleading Finals. In the MacArthur classrooms, the cheerleaders maintained a combined team grade point average of 88.1.

Wisdom Lane Middle School raised $1,000 for UNICEF in October. That $1,000 will provide 550 children with measles immunizations, 80 children with emergency blankets, nutrition for 100 kids and clean drinking water for 500.
Although Fall sports are over for the high schools, that didn’t keep the gymnasium at DAHS from pulsating with laughter and swinging badminton racquets after school hours as once again DAHS held its annual Badminton Tournament to raise funds for the Doug Robins Memorial Scholarship.

Northside School was chosen by Nassau Reading Council to host Guatemalan educators as part of the Guatemalan Literacy Project. The partnership was facilitated by Reading Teacher, Susan Zaremba. During Summer 2009 DAHS students did not take a vacation from community service. Instead, led by two students who spearheaded a food drive for the St. Bernard’s Pantry under the direction of Sister Christine Sammons, OP, eight additional students joined together to circulate fliers, collect bagged food, check donations for expiration dates and deliver usable food to St. Bernard’s where it will be distributed to those in need.

The National Red Ribbon Campaign honors the Federal Agent Enrigque Camarena who was murdered by drug traffickers. Red Ribbons are worn throughout schools nationwide to symbolize unification against drugs and "anti-destructive decisions" against tobacco, alcohol, harassment and bullying.

On Tuesday October 13th, the MacArthur Varsity Cheerleading Team, coached by Lisa Nessler, held a fundraiser for Breast Cancer research. The cheerleaders sold over 250 pink hair extensions to students, faculty members and teachers at $10.00 per hair piece.
The MacArthur Girls Varsity Tennis Team, coached by Tara Preston, clinched the Conference 4A Championship on Wednesday October 21st by defeating Clarke 5 to 2. Their playoff performance was the culmination of a competitive season, with the ladies maintaining their undefeated record of 12 wins and 0 losses.

Mr. John Bifolco, Principal of General Douglas MacArthur High School, announced today that Nora McKinnell, Michael Reilly, and Randi Saunders have been named Commended Students in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented by the principal.
The Levittown School District has received a notice of claim from the Massapequa School District. In this action, the Massapequa School District claims that, for several years, the tuition that Levittown charged Massapequa was more than allowed by a general out-of-district-tuition formula provided by the New York State Education Department.

On September 22nd, parents visited Gardiners Avenue School for "Meet the Teacher Night." Staff explained the educational programs in place for the students as parents visited their children's classrooms and the various specialists in the building.
On Tuesday, September 29, 2009, Summit Lane students participated in a PTA Cultural Arts Program held by John Matthews and Carmen Greico from The Guide Dog Foundation. Carmen, a Levittown resident and former teacher of Summit Lane, spoke about The Guide Dog Foundation and the process in which puppies are trained into working dogs.
