Blue Dragon pride shined as Division Avenue High School hosted its annual homecoming parade and football game on Oct. 11. Central and building administrators, board members, students and staff proudly held banners and waved as they made the journey along the parade route from Northside Elementary School to Division Avenue High School. Community members cheered as the Wisdom Lane Middle School Marching Band and Division Avenue High School Marching Band played throughout the streets and students threw candy to excited spectators.
Prior to the start of the football game against the Floral Park Knights, Division Avenue seniors from the marching band, color guard, cheer, kickline and football teams were announced on the field with their loved ones during a flower ceremony. Attendees were then invited to enjoy a variety of different booths with raffles, food, drinks, school apparel, merchandise and more.
The Levittown community filled the stands as the Blue Dragons ran out onto the field. After the Pledge of Allegiance, a moment of silence was held in memory of beloved Division Avenue English teacher Michael Verdi. Throughout the evening, T-shirts were sold in honor of Mr. Verdi who made a positive impact on the school community.
During the halftime spectacular, the marching band, color guard, kickline and varsity cheerleaders entertained the crowd and members of the homecoming court were announced on the field. Emily Fuchs was crowned princess, Michael Sullivan was crowned prince, Erin Cacciuttolo was presented as homecoming queen and Brandon Martinez was named homecoming king. Although the game ended with a loss for the Blue Dragons, the players showed their commitment to the game and played their hearts out.
