Eighteen students from Division Avenue High School joined students from Syosset High School, Oyster Bay High School, Amityville High School, and Freeport High School in the Breaking Borders Program on October 10th. Through various interactive activities, students discussed important issues such as tolerance, compassion, understanding and empathy towards one another's cultures, ethnicities, and experiences.
When asked about the day, students responded enthusiastically. "I was pleasantly surprised by the deep conversations I was able to have with people I just met," said junior Daniel Hoang. "Breaking Borders works towards dissolving that divide between different cultural, ethnic, and racial groups." Neriah Faton added to the conversation by saying, "It was really cool to come together with unfamiliar people to talk about issues that are so important...by the end we felt like friends."
