Nineteen Years of Parents as Reading Partners at Northside
February 14, 2012

Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students at Northside School celebrated their nineteenth year of participation in the PARP reading incentive program. The theme of this year's "Parents as Reading Partners Program," sponsored by the PTA was "The Wizard of Oz".

Reading for 20 minutes each night was encouraged with incentives given to the class that read the most. Enriching experiences were presented such as "Authors Night and Book Swap", held in the evening to accommodate parents schedules, and two days of notable guest readers who volunteered to read to the children in their classrooms. A highlight was the annual Scholastic Book Fair, held for one evening and two days, where students such as these fifth graders pictured, (L) Alex Lunetta and (R) Salvatore Cicco, could select books, posters, compact discs, software, science kits and educational merchandise.

Further PARP activities included "Dress as your Favorite Book Character Day", "Wear a T-Shirt with Writing Day" and a Cultural Arts Assembly called "Curriculaughs".
