Summit Students Take Audiences Into A World of Pure Imagination
Summit Lane Elementary School transformed into a candy land as students in the Summit Lane drama club performed their musical production of Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka KIDS" for students and family members on Feb. 28 and March 1.
Under the guidance of director and assistant choreographer Marjorie Wade, assistant director Katie Stewart, producer Cynthia Dano, choreographer Tracy Smith and crew chief Kevin Gorman, students took audience members into the world of candy manufacturer Willy Wonka (Tyler Persampire). Mr. Wonka conducts a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his candy bars and the winners of these tickets earn a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are self-absorbed but the fifth is likable Charlie Bucket (Ilijah Canlas), who takes the tour with his grandfather (Aiden Rohman-Higgins). The winnershave to learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory or suffer the consequences.
With colorful sets and creative costumes, the production was a true school-wide effort as Principal Keith Squillacioti joined the cast as reporter Phineous Trout. Students showcased their talents by performing songs such as "The Candy Man," "(I've Got A) Golden Ticket," and "At the Gates (Pure Imagination)."
