Despite the pandemic, Jonas E. Salk and Wisdom Lane middle school students have found a way to connect each week. Every Friday, Kirsten Anderson, Salk Middle School librarian and Caitlin Stabile, Wisdom Lane Middle School librarian, facilitate live Kahoot! trivia games during lunch periods for students to virtually interact with each other. Kahoot! is a popular game-based online learning platform.
Using their Chromebooks, the students from both schools are able to build a bond while showcasing their knowledge of themes such as books, pop culture, video games, Marvel and Disney. The students suggest the themes and the librarians create 20-question Kahoot! games that students play live during the last 20 minutes of their lunch periods on Fridays.
The interested students, which has reached to about 100 participants, join a Google Classroom for these trivia events where they receive a Kahoot! code at the start of every game. By opening a tab on their Chromebooks, each student can participate in live time. The games allow in-person and fully remote students to meet new friends and challenge their trivia skills during this unprecedented time.
