Several student-athletes from Division Avenue High School were recognized by Town of Hempstead officials outside of the school on April 27 for their athletic achievements. The students were surrounded by proud principal John Coscia, assistant principals Jaclyn Guidice and Sam McElroy, physical education department chairman Sean Smith and soccer and bowling coach Madeline Pagano.
Anna Cacciuttolo, a junior on Division Avenue's soccer team, was honored by Newsday as one of the top 100 Long Island girls soccer players for 2021. She was commended by Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin, Councilman Dennis Dunne Sr. and Town Clerk Kate Murray for her impressive ranking and athleticism.?
In addition, the Division Avenue High School girls varsity bowling team was recognized by the town for being 2019-2020 Nassau County Champions. Two of the student bowlers, Kayla DeJesus and Kaitlyn O'Toole, graduated last year but returned for the special day. Other team members included Erica DeJesus and Brillian Soedarmasto and Katherine Oswald, a 2020 graduate who is away at college. Supervisor Clavin and Councilman Dunne unveiled a large congratulations sign from the Town of Hempstead for the team, and each bowler, along with coach Pagano, received a certificate of recognition.
