Division Avenue High School softball player Alyssa Weinberg was named the 2021 Nassau County Pitcher of the Year.
Division Avenue High School pitcher Alyssa Weinberg has had a dominant year on the mound. The Levittown School District softball player was recently named the 2021 Nassau County Pitcher of the Year for softball. This prestigious title is the softball version of baseball's Diamond Award.?
Coach David Radke said he recruited Alyssa in eighth grade, an exceptional softball player even then, where she has held a position on the varsity softball team ever since. Even though the athletic season was drastically shortened during the pandemic sports season, Alyssa did not fail to excel.
During the 2020-2021 school year, Alyssa's record was 13 and 2. She managed to strike out 200 batters. Additionally, during 9 of 13 wins, Alyssa pitched a no-hitter, a perfect game, a one-hitter and six two-hitters. She also helped the team to win the Nassau County Conference 1 title.
Alyssa, a junior, will be back on the mound during next season and is currently being recruited by Division 1 softball teams, Coach Radke said.
"I know she is looking forward to continuing her performance and hopefully will help to lead us to a title next year," Coach Radke said.
The Levittown School District congratulates Alyssa on this outstanding accomplishment and extends best wishes for success next season.
