Emily Leicht, a Division Avenue High School senior in the Levittown Public School District, was named a semifinalist in the 2022 Coca-Cola Scholars Program. Leicht is one of 1,617 high school seniors selected throughout the country from a pool of more than 68,000 submitted applications. Semifinalists were chosen based on their academic excellence, leadership and service demonstrated in school and in the community.
At Division Avenue, Leicht is highly involved as the president of the Key Club, National Honor Society, secretary of the AV club and member of the Art, National and World Language Honor Society. She plays an active role in the community, too ? Leicht is the president of the town's youth coalition, Levittown Young Organizers United to Help, which works toward prevention and awareness on teen substance abuse. She also crochets tote bags for young girls at DreamCamp and blankets for animals at North Shore Animal League, as well as volunteers at the North Shore Animal League.
Leicht is applying to Cornell University and University of California, Davis to pursue biological sciences and pre-veterinarian studies.
"It's an absolute honor to have been selected as a semi-finalist and I hope to make it to the next round," Leicht said. "I would not have been able to make it this far without the support of my family, teachers, and advisors."
Leicht will move on to the next round of the selection process for a chance to become a Coca-Cola Scholar and receive a $20,000 college scholarship. Phase two applications include essays, a recommendation and transcripts. In March 2022, 150 Scholars will be named to each receive the scholarship and participate in the Coca-Cola Leadership Development Institute facilitated by program alumni.
