Throughout the months of April and May, students and staff at Levittown's Summit Lane Elementary School held a pajama drive, hosted by the student government. The new pajamas were donated to the John Thiessen Children's Foundation, which will distribute them to children in local hospitals.
Students also participated in a school-wide contest to design pajamas for Spike, the school mascot. The winners of the contest, Dalia Tanzi (kindergarten), Zoey Mercado (first grade), Thashwin Piratheepan (second grade), Lily Zimberlin (third grade), Lily Chanta (fourth grade) and Angela Dong (fifth grade), were surprised in their classrooms by Spike on the final day of the pajama drive.
The student government, which includes third, fourth and fifth grade students, helped promote the drive and voted on the winners of the design contest.
