Our second grade classrooms were filled with excitement as we combined math and social-emotional learning with a hands-on conversation heart activity. Students sorted the hearts by color and created graphs to compare which colors appeared most and least. They loved sharing their observations and talking through their thinking. We then extended the lesson into SEL by having students create their own conversation hearts with kind and positive messages. They were so thoughtful in choosing words that would make others feel good, and they took such pride in decorating their hearts. It was a special way to blend learning, creativity, and kindness in our classrooms.
