Coronavirus Update: (08/05/2020)

Good afternoon. This is an important message from the Levittown School District for Wednesday, August 5, 2020. Please note that as many of our families are without power due to the recent Tropical Storm, we will be resending this message out on Friday, August 7th.

We hope you and your family are well. We have received many questions over the past week regarding school reopening as well as the full remote option the district is offering. Please see this FAQ document featuring many of these questions as well as the most up-to-date answers. If you have submitted questions to us, or are looking for information, please visit our district website. This document will continue to be updated regularly. Many have also asked for an extension of the deadline to sign up for the remote option. Please know we set the August 7th date to provide us with the enrollment information that we need in order to make staffing adjustments over the next few weeks. These staffing adjustments will have impacts not just on the remote option, but also on in-person classes, especially at the secondary level. However, we understand the gravity of this decision for parents and can provide an extension until Monday, August 10th, at 12 midnight.

Our full, final reopening plan is now available on our district website. You may continue to provide feedback using the email address feedback@levittownschools.

Coronavirus Update: (07/31/2020)

Good afternoon. This is a school reopening update from the Levittown School District for Friday July 31, 2020.

We have received several questions regarding the remote option survey, specifically a request for additional information about school reopening to help with making the decision to return to school.

Currently, our plan for reopening schools this fall is as follows:

  • At the elementary level, all students will receive in-person schooling everyday.
  • Our hope at the 6th grade level is to bring all students in every day.
  • For students in grades 7-12, students will attend school on an every other day basis. On the day they are home, students will be provided with remote instruction. The exact model of instruction on this remote day is still in development. More information on this will be forthcoming.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID19, the following health protocols will be in place:

  • All students and staff who are medically able will be required to wear masks when in the building. Mask breaks will be scheduled throughout the day at all levels.
  • All students and staff will have their temperatures checked prior to entry. Individuals who have a temperature of 100 or higher will not be permitted into the building.
  • Some furniture in classrooms will be removed to provide the maximum social distancing possible. Some classes will take place in larger settings, such as all-purpose rooms and cafeterias.
  • Students in elementary school will eat lunch in their classroom.
  • Students in grades 6-12 will eat lunch in the cafeteria, socially distanced.
  • Seniors will be allowed to take a reduced schedule of classes as long as they will meet the New York State required 22 credits for graduation. NYS Diploma requirements can be found here: www.nysed.gov/common/nysed/files/currentdiplomarequirements.pdf

These protocols will be evaluated every two weeks during the school year to make any appropriate adjustments.

For parents considering our full remote option, please note the following information:

  • Live remote instruction will be provided by a certified teacher using Google Classroom, using the in-school bell schedule.
  • The same attendance requirements for in-person classes will apply to remote classes.
  • Grades will be provided in the same fashion as in-person classes (Levels 1-4 at the elementary level and 0-100 at the secondary level).
  • For students who choose this option at the secondary level, not all elective classes may be available, however, we are endeavoring to provide as many options as possible for our students.

As more details become available over the next days and weeks we will provide additional updates. Thank you and have a great weekend!

Coronavirus Update: (07/30/2020)

We hope this message finds you well. We have several important announcements related to school reopening.

First, the Board of Education approved an adjustment to the school calendar for the 2020-2021 school year. The first day of school will now be Tuesday, September 8th. This will allow for additional time for staff training during the first week in September. To accommodate for this later start, December 21st and 22nd will now be regular school days. The holiday break will start on Wednesday, December 23rd. The new calendar can be found on our district website.

Second, we have posted a form on our website for parents who are interested in a fully remote instructional program for this upcoming school year. If you are interested in this option, please fill out the form and return it to us no later than Friday, August 7th.

As many parents have told us that they are uncomfortable with putting their children on a bus, we will be posting a form for parents to opt out of district provided transportation. This link will be available on the district website no later than tomorrow.

We have now opened registration for the LAP and LAMP programs. Please see our district website for these forms.

Coronavirus Update: (07/21/2020)

Late last week, the New York State Education Department published a detailed guidance document with all of the regulations that we must follow for reopening our schools. Based on this information we are developing multiple reopening plans. In order to guide the development of these plans, we have created a brief parent survey. Please see below for a link to the survey. A separate survey should be completed for each child.

The survey will remain available until the end of this week. Thank you, and have a great day.

Coronavirus Update: (07/13/2020)

As you may have heard, Governor Cuomo has indicated that schools will reopen this fall as long as the COVID19 infection rate for our region remains below 5%. As we wait for detailed guidance, we continue to work on our draft reopening plan and hope to share it with you shortly, at which time we will welcome our community's feedback. A copy of the article indicating Governor Cuomo's decision can be found here: www.newsday.com/long-island/education/coronavirus-schools-reopening-long-island-1.46792123

Coronavirus Update: (07/10/2020)

We hope this message finds you and your family well. As part of phase 4 reopening, we will soon begin to reissue field usage permits to community organizations. Due to the fact that some additional protocols need to be added to our forms and procedures, we anticipate being able to reopen the field usage application process by Wednesday, July 15th.

Additionally, as you may have heard, Governor Cuomo announced that formal guidance on reopening schools this fall is set to be released next week. Once we have that information we will be developing draft re-opening plans that will be shared with the community. You can expect to receive additional information on the upcoming school year by later this month.

Thank you, and have a wonderful weekend.

***************************************************

Since May, the district has been developing multiple scenarios related to reopening schools this fall. Once New York State releases official guidance for school reopening, we will be able to develop draft plans to share with stakeholders. Please see the presentation to the Board of Education for more information.

Coronavirus Update: (06/15/2020)

We hope this message finds you and your family well. We have several important announcements to make today.

First, as a reminder, our grading policy was modified for the 4th quarter for all middle and high school students. Instead of a 0-100 score, students will receive a level for their participation in the 4th quarter remote learning program. To see the full grading policy, please refer to our district website or the parent portal. Also, for the third trimester, elementary students will only receive a narrative comment from their classroom teacher. Grades and comments will be finalized on the Parent portal by 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 17th.

Additionally, please remember our summer learning opportunities. We have posted several activity guides for each elementary grade level that focus on both academics and social emotional health. We are also continuing our summer reading program, as well as our summer assignments for AP and College Level courses. For additional information on these summer learning opportunities, please visit the website for your child's school and choose the link titled "Summer Assignments"

On Friday a parent survey was emailed out to our community. Please take a moment this week to complete the survey so that your feedback can be used to inform our decision making moving forward.

Finally, please accept our thanks for your support as we worked through this unprecedented situation this spring. By working together as a community we were able to continue the learning for our children, held exciting drive through celebrations for our 5th and 8th grade students, provided food for thousands of families through our food pantry, and have planned multiple graduation ceremonies for this July for our seniors. It truly is a proud moment to be a part of the Levittown School community.

We wish you happiness and health this summer and look forward to seeing everyone in person in September. Thank you and have a great day.

Coronavirus Update: (06/08/2020)

Good afternoon. This is an update from the Levittown School District for Monday, June 08, 2020. This message and additional information can always be found on our website at levittownschools.com

We hope this message finds you and your family well. As you may have heard this weekend, Governor Cuomo has allowed outdoor high school graduation ceremonies starting June 26th. As such we will continue to move forward with our plan for live, in person graduation ceremonies for both High Schools during the week of July 27th. Please visit your child's High School website for the most up-to-date information regarding these ceremonies.

Additionally, since part of the phased reopening includes the allowance for low risk recreational activities, please be advised that the Levittown School District fields have been reopened for use by Levittown School District residents only. Playgrounds, however, must remain closed. If you plan on using the fields please be prepared to show your ID to district security upon request. Please remember to follow social distancing protocols anytime you are on school property and refrain from congregating in large groups.

Coronavirus Update: (06/02/2020)

We hope this message finds you and your family well. We have received several phone calls asking about our plans for this upcoming 2020-2021 school year. Please know that our intent is to open our school buildings in September for our students and teachers with a renewed focus on health and safety in light of the COVID19 pandemic. We are actively working on our plans for September as we await guidance from the Governor's office. This guidance affects all schools, public and private. Additionally, based on feedback from teachers, students and parents, we will be expanding our 1:1 initiative to all students and transitioning to Google Classroom for this fall as an enhancement to our in person classroom instruction.

Coronavirus Update: (05/21/2020)

We hope this message finds you and your family well. We have several announcements to make regarding the remainder of the school year.

First, as you may remember, Governor Cuomo's Executive Order in April required that school districts continue remote instruction throughout the month. Since Spring Break was not observed at that time, we will be moving the break to the end of the school year from June 18th-June 26th which will be the last day of school. Classes, however, will end June 12th. Monday June 15th and Tuesday June 16th will be used for students to submit work and communicate with teachers in order to collect outstanding assignments and bring closure to the year. We expect grades and comments to be posted by the morning of June 17th.

Please look forward to information regarding plans for our 5th grade and 8th grade moving up ceremonies from your building principals. These ceremonies will include both virtual and in-person components. We hope to make these events memorable for our students and their families. By tomorrow, the High School principals will be sharing additional information about our plans for our live, in-person High School graduation.

We have received questions from families about what our plans are for the upcoming school year. Our intent is to re-open our school buildings for our students and teachers. Of course, the extent to which we can re-open will be dictated by the Governor.

Please be reminded that our budget hearing is Wednesday May 27th. The last day to submit questions to the district clerk is Tuesday, May 26th by 5:00pm. To submit questions, please email Ms. Appelbaum using this form.

As we celebrate Memorial Day this weekend, let us all take a moment to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. We hope that you have wonderful and safe Memorial Day weekend with your family. Please remember that Monday is a federal holiday and that there will be no live instruction that day.

Coronavirus Update: (05/14/2020)

This is an important message regarding high school graduation and moving up ceremonies for 5th and 8th grades.

As many of you are aware, we conducted a survey of our HS Seniors seeking preferences on how we can conduct a meaningful and safe graduation for our 2020 graduates. We have also been discussing this with the parents of our students. We are in the process of analyzing that data and will finalize plans, to the extent that we can, by next week. Over the past two months we have been, and continue to develop, multiple plans, since any plans we make are subject to the rules and regulations set by the Governor regarding large scale gatherings.

As we continue to work to finalize our high school celebrations, we are working on our elementary and middle school moving up ceremonies and look to provide events that are joyous and meaningful for both parents and students. Our priority is to include as much live interaction as we can. Again, we are working on multiple scenarios to ensure that our children have a special day.

You may have heard about other districts who have sent out emails promising in-person ceremonies at some date in the future, with no other details. Our plan is to provide you with a date and details as soon as we can, and in accordance with the Governor's orders. To do otherwise, we believe, would be to make promises that we may not be able to keep.

If you have questions, we urge you to contact your school's principal. Have a great day

Coronavirus Update: (04/30/2020)

We hope this message finds you and your family well. We are excited to announce that we will be enhancing our remote learning program with opportunities for live video interactions with our teachers. Specific information will be shared by your building principal and your child's teachers.

In keeping with the NYS Board of Regents decision to cancel June and August Regents exams, we will not be administering final exams this year.

Thank you to our community members and the many community groups for their generosity in providing donations to our food pantry at Wisdom Lane. We are happy to report that the food pantry is fully stocked at present and that additional donations are not needed at this moment, however as we anticipate future needs, the Board of Education has set up a Facebook page (Levittown Food Pantry) where additional information will be posted. As always, if you need to reach our food pantry the email address is foodpantry@levittownschools.com

On May 1st Levittown School District will be participating in a Nassau County initiative called "Light Up the Night" in honor of our senior student athletes. At 8:20pm on May 1st stay home and flash your lights in their honor. For more information please see the flyer on our website.

We have released our updated grading procedures for middle and high school students for the 4th quarter. These grading procedures were developed with the well-being of our students in mind. We hope this message finds you and your families well. Today, the New York State Department of Education released additional details related to the cancelation of Regents Exams. This new information indicates that students who are currently enrolled in courses culminating in a Regents exam will be exempt from taking the Regents exam as long as the student passes the course for the year. Additionally, Board of Regents Chancellor Betty Rosa has said that the Regents exams scheduled for this June will be cancelled and that further information would be announced tomorrow. Once we receive that information we will share it with you.

Please see the flyer posted on our website for additional information.

As you may remember, we had postponed the release of elementary grades due to the coronavirus. 2nd trimester grades for students in grade K-5 are now available on the Parent Portal. Please note that the second trimester ended prior to the closure of school.

Coronavirus Update: (03/31/2020)

We hope this message finds you well. We have received additional guidance from the Governor's office that districts are required to continue essential services during the previously scheduled Spring Break. This includes distribution of meals, provision of child care as well as the continuation of remote learning. Our remote learning during the break will focus on providing review and enrichment opportunities for students. For families who may be celebrating religious holidays, additional flexibility will be given throughout this time period. As always, if you have questions please contact your child's teacher.

In addition, the Governor's office has delayed the school budget vote and Board of Education election until no earlier than June 1st. Once a final date is released from the State we will update you.

Coronavirus Update: (03/30/2020)

We have received word from the New York State Department of Education that due to the closure of schools the deadline for parental requests for transportation to charter and nonpublic schools for next school year has been extended to April 15, 2020. Please see additional information regarding this extension on this page.

Just as a reminder the food pantry is open tomorrow from 10am-12pm at Wisdom Lane Middle School. Island Harvest will also be there distributing perishable meals to families. As another reminder breakfast and lunch are distributed to students who need them at Salk Middle School on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12pm-3pm.

We have heard from some of our vendors about scams in which individuals are attempting to contact families, saying that they owe money for school items, such as yearbooks and class rings. Please do not provide any credit card information over the phone. If you have a question about the purchase of school items, please email your principal. We are not asking for credit card information over the phone.

Coronavirus Update: (03/27/2020)

We hope you are doing well today. We have now learned that the Governor has closed schools up to April 15th. Since this falls during our Spring break, our schools will plan to open on April 20th, assuming that there are no further Executive Orders issued by the Governor. Remote learning will not take place during the scheduled Spring break (April 9-April 17). Of course we will be in touch with you if any of this changes.

We have received many questions about how 3rd quarter averages will be calculated for students in grades 6-12. Teachers will use grades that were from assignments and assessments that were administered prior to the closing of the district on March 13th. Teachers may use grades from online assignments, postings and assessments only if they improve a student's overall average. Students who are missing work from prior to March 13th should contact the classroom teacher to receive information about how to make up that work.

The third quarter for middle and high school students ends Friday, April 3rd. We do expect a slight delay in the posting of final third quarter averages. We will send an additional message with the new date.

Some people have inquired as to our plan for 4th quarter averages. Since the 4th quarter only begins on April 6th, we are going to wait a little longer before we finalize those plans.

2nd Trimester grades for elementary students will be available the week of April 6th.

For parents who are first responders or critical health care workers, please see the information on our website regarding free child care for your children.

Please know we continue to keep you and your family in our thoughts and we hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Coronavirus Update: (03/26/2020)

Good afternoon. This is an important update from the Levittown School District for Thursday, March 26th.

We hope this message finds you and your family well. Last night the Board of Education approved an agreement with SCOPE educational services whereby children of first responders and critical Health care workers will be able to get free child care for their school aged children. The link to register for this service is https://www.scopeonline.us If you cannot access the link, you can also call 631-360-0800 ext. 120

As you may have already heard, the New York State Education Department has suspended the administration of the 3-8 ELA, Math and Science assessments for this year. At this time no decision has been made about the Regents exams.

Just as a reminder- Families who are eligible for the free and reduced price meal program are encouraged to participate in our meal pick up program, which is available every Tuesday and Thursday from 12PM to 3PM at Salk Middle School in the back parking lot by the cafeteria. Every Tuesday, students will be able to pick up two days of meals and every Thursday there will be 3 days of meals available. To protect the safety of all families, as well as our staff who are distributing the meals, families are asked to remain in their vehicles for passenger window delivery. If you are in need of food from our food pantry located at Wisdom Lane Middle School, please see the information on our website regarding hours of operation.

Coronavirus Update: (03/24/2020)

Dear Students,

We have been thinking about you and how you are doing. We can't wait until you are back in our buildings. They are not the same without you.

As you continue to work on your assignments, please know that we are only looking for you to do your best. We know that this is not what you are used to, but you are doing great and we are very proud of you.

Remember to get up and get some fresh air. The weather is getting better and there's nothing like sunshine to lift your mood.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Please remember that our food service is available again on Thursday at Salk from 12 - 3, if you are in need. Also our food pantry at Wisdom Lane will be open next on Thursday from 5pm - 7pm. Our Board members have been working to make sure that all who need food can get it.

This is a stressful time for us all. If your child is experiencing anxiety, please feel free to use the resources we have on our website for social emotional learning. These can be found on our Coronavirus resource page, along with other helpful links.

We want to balance our desire to keep you informed with our realization that a call every evening might become intrusive, therefore, unless there is an important message, you may not hear from us on this issue on a regular basis. We will be updating our website regularly, so please do check for updates. Contact information is also listed there for your use.

Be safe and healthy.

Coronavirus Update: (03/23/2020)

AP EXAMS
If your student is taking an AP course, please refer to the guidance department website of your high school for updated information. Any questions you have can be emailed to your student's guidance counselor. The web addresses are below:

FOOD PANTRY
Our Board of Education has been staffing the Food Pantry at Wisdom. They have put together a list of items that are in need. The pantry is open tomorrow, Tuesday, from 10-12.

CORONAVIRUS IN OUR COMMUNITY
We are beginning to hear of a few self-reported cases of individuals testing positive for the Coronavirus. We have been in contact with the NYS and County Departments of Health and have been told that at this point, there is no reason to panic as schools have already been closed for 10 days, As you know, the scientific community has said that the maximum incubation period for this virus is 14 days. That puts us 4 days away from any possible contact that could have happened in our schools. Given the executive order by our Governor and the order by our County Executive, everyone should be self-quarantined at this point. If anyone has symptoms, such as a cough or a fever of at least 100.4 degrees they should contact their doctor and follow his or her directions.

We continue to think about our school community and are here to help if you are in need. You may reach us by using the contact sheet which is on our Coronavirus resource page, or by clicking on individuals listed under "faculty and staff" on each of the schools' pages.

We hope that you stay safe and healthy during this trying time.

Coronavirus Update: (03/20/2020)

FOOD PANTRY
The response from our community has been phenomenal. The Board of Education has been working to collect and distribute food as needed. For next week and until further notice - The food pantry will be open on Tuesdays from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon and Thursday 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the front entrance of Wisdom Lane Middle School Donations will be accepted whenever the food pantry is open.

CHILD CARE
Parents who are deemed essential workers by the Governor may register their children for Child Care through SCOPE educational services . Please click the first button that says "CLICK HERE for SCOPE Emergency Child Care". On your behalf, please be advised that we are working with SCOPE regarding cost. Please register if you need this service.

REMOTE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Governor Cuomo's Executive Order has mandated that all people work from home, except for essential services. To be in compliance with the Governor's order, please know that if you are in need of a device, and have not already made arrangements to pick one up, you must contact the Technology Department by 2:00 today by email at loan@levittownschools.com . Moving forward, tech related questions should first be directed to the classroom teacher, who will then forward these concerns to the appropriate staff member. Please expect a delay as we will be functioning with a reduced work force.

FOOD SERVICES
If you have opted in to pay your child's meals through automatic payment: All MySchoolBucks automatic payments have been suspended.

We thank our generous community for the tremendous donations the food pantry received today. Our Board of Education members will be at Wisdom Lane's front entrance on Friday, March 20, 2020 from 10:30am until 12:30pm to distribute food to those in need. They will continue to take donations. If you have shopping bags or boxes, please bring them with you to facilitate distribution. If you are in need and you have not already done so, please email foodpantry@levittownschools.com so that we can plan accordingly

CHILD CARE
Parents who are First Responders or Critical Health Care Workers may register their children for Child Care through SCOPE educational services . Please click the first button that says "CLICK HERE for SCOPE Emergency Child Care". On your behalf, please be advised that we are working with SCOPE regarding cost. Please register if you need this service.

REMOTE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
We continue to implement our remote learning opportunities and make adjustments as necessary.

We appreciate your patience as we work to get everyone signed on. We have put together some answers to Frequently Asked Questions which are posted on the Coronavirus Resource Page, under Tutorials.

A WORD ABOUT ASSIGNMENTS: As you can imagine, everyone is adjusting to a new system. Teachers are assessing and adjusting their assignments as they adapt to this new normal. If your child is having trouble, please let your child's teacher know. Our goal is to keep kids engaged in learning.

FUNCTIONALITY OF EDMODO: We understand that there have been some issues when students are signing onto Edmodo in the morning. All educational platforms are experiencing delays, especially in the morning. Edmodo is working to resolve this issue. For now, a suggestion would be to have your child log in a little later in the day - perhaps around lunch time. Just because assignments are posted at 10am, it does not mean that they need to be completed immediately.

Please continue to check our website for additional tutorials and resources as we brave this storm together.

REMOTE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Our remote learning opportunities were live as of today. Our Instructional Technology personnel are working to provide support to students where needed. We appreciate your patience as we work to get everyone signed on. We have put together some answers to Frequently Asked Questions which are posted on the Coronavirus Resource Page, under Tutorials.

ELEMENTARY PARENTS
Some of your children may already have their login information for Edmodo. To ensure that all students have their login information we have sent them out to your houses. If you have not received a letter receiving your child's sign in information yet, please do not worry! We expect that all letters will be delivered by Friday in time for the students to sign on Monday. Your child will not be penalized in any way.

CONTACT NUMBERS/EMAILS
As we continue to comply with the Governor's mandate to have employees work from home, you may not be able to contact us by phone. However, we will all be answering emails throughout the work day. Teachers and Principals can be contacted by clicking on their name on the school website under school resources. For other departments, such as Special Education, please refer to our Coronavirus Resources and Information page, in the column on the right.

SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL LEARNING
Our Special Education Department has put together some information to help everyone stay in a healthy state of mind. Please refer to our Coronavirus Resources and Information page, in the column on the right. It is titled Social/Emotional Learning.

Again, thank you for your cooperation during this time. Together, we will continue to support our students and families.

Coronavirus Update: (03/17/2020)

ACCESS TO BUILDINGS
You should have received an automated call earlier today from your child's school related to accessibility for students to retrieve essential items. Please know that the schools will only be accessible tomorrow based on the schedule released by your school. That information is posted on your school's webpage.

FOOD PANTRY
If you are in need of items or if you would like to donate items to our food pantry, located at Wisdom Lane Middle School, please email us at foodpantry@levittownschools.com. Our Board of Education will be leading this effort to ensure everyone who needs food has access to it.

REMOTE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Thank you for your continued patience, flexibility and understanding. Our commitment to our students' well-being is first and foremost. As you know, we are in the process of transitioning our learning opportunities for our students onto the Edmodo platform. Our staff has been working tirelessly to ensure learning opportunities will be continued for our students, although we all know that remote learning can never take the place of a teacher. This is a measure devised to keep students' minds engaged until schools reopen. We have done our best to devise lessons that are not overly burdensome. If your child would like additional work for enrichment, please have them contact their teacher through Edmodo.

By 10am Wednesday, all teachers will have their Edmodo virtual classrooms established. Students should log in on school days after 10am to complete the lessons posted by their teachers. If you have questions about Edmodo classes, please email your child's teacher. Teachers will be available to answer questions during the hours of the regular school day. Students receiving services such as speech or counseling, will receive a separate class code to join on the Edmodo site. Please note that specific instructions must be followed for families who will be using a single device for multiple students. That information is on our coronavirus resource page.

Parents of students in grades K-5 will receive a letter in the mail with their child's log in information. If you have not received this letter by Friday, please email your school's principal. If you have a child in the middle or high school, who does not know their log in information, please email your school's principal.

As a reminder, if you do not have access to the internet, starting Monday, March 16th, eligible households interested in home internet access can call Altice at 1-866-200-9522 for temporary free internet service. Once again, the district does not endorse any particular vendor, but is merely making this information available to you. If we receive information from other vendors, we will provide it to you.

You may use any home computer or personal device to access Edmodo. If you are unable to secure a device for use, we will loan out devices we have in stock. Some teachers have proactively asked their students about this. In an effort to ensure that everyone's needs are accommodated, please make sure that if you need a device, email our technology office at loan@levittownschools.com, even if your child told his or her teacher. Someone in our Instructional Technology Department will get back to you within one business day. Giving specific contact information will help to expedite their response. Please be considerate of others. If you do not need to borrow a device, please do not ask.

SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES
Please refer to Special Education Guidance on our coronavirus resource page. If you have questions, please email the special education office at sfarber@levittownschools.com

ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS
If you require support in a language other than English, please contact Michele Ortiz.

Again, thank you for your cooperation during this time. Together, we will continue to support our students and families.

Coronavirus Update: (03/16/2020)

We are living in extraordinary times. As you know, the Governor has suspended in-person instruction and extra curricular activities, including sports as a result of concerns over the spread of the coronavirus (Covid 19). The Board of Education and District Administration are united in working towards providing support to our school families at this difficult time.

FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH
Families who are eligible for the free and reduced price meal program are encouraged to participate in our meal pick up program, which will begin on Tuesday March 17th. Grab and go meals (Breakfast and Lunch) will be available every Tuesday and Thursday from 12PM to 3PM at Salk Middle School in the back parking lot by the cafeteria. Every Tuesday, students will be able to pick up two days of meals and every Thursday there will be 3 days of meals available. This will continue for the duration of the suspension of in-person instruction as mandated by our Governor. We will also have free/reduced applications available for those whose financial situation has changed due to the current COVID-19 health emergency. To protect the safety of all families, as well as our staff who are distributing the meals, families are asked to remain in their vehicles for passenger window delivery. As we must track the meals served in accordance with our normal school lunch service, families will be asked to provide the student ID number before service. If you are in need of food from our food pantry, please contact the main office at Wisdom Lane. Conversely, if you are able to donate food, you may also contact Wisdom to set up a time to drop it off.

CHILD CARE FOR FIRST RESPONDERS AND CRITICAL HEALTH CARE WORKERS:
The Governor has tasked us to provide child care for our first responders and critical health care workers. We are happy to support our community in this way. If you fall into this category of workers and are in need of child care, please contact your child's school Wednesday, March 18th by 1 pm. We will compile a list and get back to you as soon as we can with details.

ACCESS TO SCHOOL BUILDINGS
Your child's principal will be sending out an automated call on Tuesday, March 17th (tomorrow), advising you of the schedule they have set up so that students can pick up essential items they may need during this time. You should receive this call by 12:00 noon. This information will also be posted on the schools' webpage after 12:00 noon.

If you have provided a supply of medication for your child to be stored in our buildings, please be advised that the school nurse will contact you tomorrow (March 17th). If you do not receive a call, please contact the nurse directly.

REMOTE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
The District continues to work with teachers to develop remote learning opportunities during the time that in-person instruction has been suspended by the Governor. While many teachers have already begun posting assignments, we expect that all teachers will have remote learning opportunities posted by the end of the week. You will receive a Connect-Ed call by Wednesday, March 18th, providing further information about how to access your child's virtual classrooms. This message will also provide information for students who are having trouble accessing virtual resources. However if you already know that you are having difficulty with access, please contact your school for assistance, beginning on Tuesday, March 17th, so that we can begin troubleshooting for your child.

You may also wish to contact Altice, at the following website should you have connectivity issues at your home. Please be advised that the district cannot contact Altice on your behalf. https://www.alticeusa.com/news/articles/feature/corporate/altice-usa-brings-free-broadband-k-12-and-college-students-during-coronavirus-pandemic THE DISTRICT DOES NOT ENDORSE ANY PARTICULAR VENDOR, BUT IS MERELY MAKING THIS INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO YOU. IF WE RECEIVE INFORMATION FROM OTHER VENDORS, WE WILL PROVIDE IT TO YOU.

Coronavirus Update: (03/15/2020)

As you may have heard, about an hour ago, County Executive Laura Curran issued an executive order closing all Nassau County schools for the next two weeks. As a result, Levittown Schools will be closed. We will contact you in the next few days to inform you of our plans for remote learning and free and reduced lunch distribution. Please remind your children that this measure is meant to provide social distancing. They should not be gathering in groups during this time. We have great faith in our families to practice good common sense as we keep the welfare of our community as a priority. Thank you.

Coronavirus Update: (03/13/2020)

Schools are in the process of being thoroughly cleaned today and Monday in accordance with CDC regulations. Our current plan is to close school for students on Tuesday, March 17th in order to meet with teachers to ensure they have all of the necessary resources to provide remote learning opportunities in the event of a long term closure. This means students will return to school on Wednesday, March 18th. All activities between Friday March 13th through Tuesday March 17th are canceled, including our Saturday Dance program.

Please know that we continue to be in contact with the Department of Health and will update you as necessary, following their guidance.

As always the safety and wellbeing of our school community is our utmost priority. We appreciate your understanding during this challenging time.

Coronavirus Update: (03/12/2020)

We have been notified by the Nassau County Department of Health that a GC Tech staff member has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). As mandated by the New York State Health Department, GC Tech will be closed on Friday, March 13 and Monday, March 16.

Since GC Tech is located at Levittown Memorial, and our students attend this program, the Levittown School District will also close all district schools on Friday and Monday out of an abundance of caution to clean and disinfect all of our schools.

Please note that although this individual is not a Levittown Employee, we feel strongly that this is a prudent course of action.

Since we did not use any snow days this winter, these two days will be counted as snow days and instruction will resume on Tuesday, March 17th. Therefore, we will have school on Friday, May 22nd.

As Friday March 13th and Monday March 16th are considered as snow days, there is no requirement for teachers or students to log into Edmodo for remote learning. If a long term closure becomes necessary we will provide additional information regarding remote learning.
