I hope this letter finds you safe and well. I would like to keep you appraised of a few upcoming items of importance. In order to be able to return personal items and belongings to students, our teachers have been coming in this week to gather and bag items left in the classrooms prior to the suspension of face to face instruction. We would like to provide you with the opportunity to pick up your child's belongings on the dates, times and locations listed at the bottom of this letter.
Each class has been slated a specific day, time and location (click here)
that will allow for an orderly and safe pickup, while maintaining social distancing guidelines. When you arrive to the building, please park in the back lot. Members of our security team will be there to greet you and point you in the direction of your pickup area.
Please be sure to wear a protective mask for your safety and for the safety of our team.
Cones will be placed in select locations to establish safe distancing while waiting to pick up your child's materials. Members of our custodial team will be stationed at each location and will hand over your child's belongings to you in a sealed bag. Please return to your car promptly while maintaining social distancing. To limit the total number of visitors to our building at one time, we ask that
one (1) person come to pick up the materials. Please do not come to pick up your child's belongings if you are ill.
If you have more than one child that attends Abbey Lane, we will have all of the children's belongings brought to one location.
Please go to the location of the classroom teacher for your oldest child in the building and all of your other children's belongings will be waiting there.
As visitors will not be permitted inside the building, rain dates have been established in the event of inclement weather. A decision to cancel a particular pickup day will be made as soon as possible and a ConnectEd call will be sent notifying you
only if the date is cancelled.
Any dates cancelled in the event of rain will be rescheduled and information about a new date would be announced.
Please make sure you bring photo identification with you on your scheduled day of pickup. If someone other than a parent or guardian will be picking up your child's belongings,
please email Dr. Maurer
indicating who will be claiming your child's belongings on your behalf.
Finally, as students are still using them, the return of textbooks, library books, musical instruments or any other items that belong to the school will be collected at a later date, closer to the conclusion of the school year. Dates and times for the return of items will be announced in the near future.

I hope my letters continue to find you all well. It is hard to believe that we are now into the month of May! As you have likely heard, Governor Cuomo extended the closure of schools and in person learning through the end of the 2019-20 academic year. While I understand the decision, it saddens me that we will not be able to come back together for our annual spring events. We are currently working on plans for the retrieval of personal belongings, our 5th Grade Moving Up Ceremony and other end of year items. We will keep you appraised of things in the days and weeks ahead.
We will continue posting new assignments and activities to our Edmodo teacher pages this week and for the remainder of the academic year. In addition, we will be enhancing our online learning experience this week to include face to face video interaction using Zoom. Zoom sessions will begin this week to acclimate the students to the environment. I ask that you review the
"Guidelines for Elementary Students"
video found on the district webpage that explains Zoom use in the virtual classroom. Teachers will be posting their "live hours" schedule on their Edmodo pages by Wednesday, May 6th and will officially begin following that schedule on May 11th. We encourage you to utilize the live hours as a way for students to engage with their teachers and classmates!
As a reminder, please be sure to review the
letter regarding placement of students in grades 1 through 4 for the 2020-21 school year.
The deadline to submit a letter regarding student placement is this Friday, May 8th.
