MacArthur Students Engage In Community Initiatives - image001Students from the MacArthur High School Science Research Program and Environmental Awareness Club recently participated in two impactful events focused on public health and environmental stewardship.

On March 6, MacArthur Science Research students presented their work at the Medical Marvels program hosted at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, part of Northwell Health. The event brought together students and scientists to explore real-world medical challenges. MacArthur students shared ongoing research projects examining potential strategies to reduce and prevent gun violence, discussing public health approaches, data analysis, and community-based solutions with researchers and healthcare professionals.

The following day, on March 7, members of MacArthur's Environmental Awareness Club stopped by the Stop Throwing Out Pollutants (STOP) Program organized by the Town of Hempstead at Eisenhower Park. The STOP program helps residents safely dispose of hazardous household materials such as paints, batteries, and electronic waste to prevent environmental contamination. Students recycled household pollutants and learned something about community involvement and individual responsibility.

Through these experiences, MacArthur students demonstrated their commitment to applying scientific knowledge and community engagement to address important public health and environmental issues.
