Board of Education Overview
The Levittown Board of Education consists of seven community residents who are elected to serve three-year terms as representatives of the public in all matters concerning the school district.
As a Union Free School District, the Board's authority and responsibilities are defined by the New York State Education Law, including Articles 33, 35, 37, 51, and 53, as well as other applicable federal and state laws and regulations. In general, the Board has full superintendence, management, and control of the district's educational affairs and holds all powers necessary to carry out these duties as provided by New York State law and the Commissioner of Education. Board of Education trustees are volunteers. They do not receive any compensation and they pay taxes at the regular rate.
Public Meeting Information
The Board of Education typically meets twice each month on the second and fourth Wednesdays in the Large Board Room at Levittown Memorial. Meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. with an executive session to discuss negotiations and other confidential matters. The public session begins at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Community members who wish to address the Board must notify the Board President before the meeting by completing a district-provided form. The form requires the speaker's name, address, and a brief description of the topic to be presented. Each speaker is allotted up to three minutes. Public input and questions are considered in accordance with Board procedures and are addressed within reasonable timeframes.
