MacArthur's Research Students Are Tomorrow's Leaders - image001MacArthur High School research program is proud to announce the exceptional performance of its students at the annual Long Island Youth Summit. Demonstrating academic excellence and a commitment to solving societal problems, 16 MacArthur students were selected as finalists to participate in the event, with several taking home honors and leadership roles.

MacArthur students took home awards in competitive categories, earning "Best Research Paper" distinctions for their analysis of modern societal challenges:

Helping Communities and Civic Preparedness: The team of Sienna Wells, Sophia Duda, and Caroline Zegers secured the top spot and a $250 prize for their collaborative examination of Levittown pools, using multiple methods including ethnography and interviews.

Social Networking: Alicia Ho was recognized for her compelling research regarding the intersection of personality traits and susceptibility to conspiracy theories. While Nick Saunders earned best paper for his timely investigation into the factors influencing public trust in modern media.

Teen Mental Health: Sienna Hughes took home top honors for her sensitive and data-driven research regarding teen perceptions of suicide.

In addition to the research accolades, four MacArthur students were selected as Group Leaders. Logan Rodrigues, Fareeha Ohid, Juliana Cook, and Ava Girardi were tasked with addressing the entire Summit, presenting key insights and solutions related to their specific topics of study.

"These achievements highlight the dedication of our students to not only take ownership of a nuanced research project but to apply their findings to issues that truly matter to our community," said the research advisor Dr. Friedman.
