Over the summer, Logan Rodriguez worked with his mentor Marianna Albanese and his partner Sebastian Martinez on the sPHENIX Removal and Repurposing Project. As part of the Collider-Accelerator Department, he attended meetings regarding work planning and safety in regard to previous incidents in the lab, toured various facilities to understand various roles around the lab, and participated in walkthroughs of the sPHENIX detector. His experience at the lab culminated in a poster presentation regarding his work at the lab and a slideshow for the ITSD division head regarding division-wide safety views as a result of new policies put in place by laboratory management. These 6 weeks helped Logan to refine his interests in STEM and prepare him for a professional working environment.

During his time at the Brookhaven National Lab, in the Introduction to Quantum Science Program, Veer Pipada studied various aspects of quantum topics related to ongoing research at the lab, including quantum mechanics, computing, encryption, and communication. Additionally, through guest speakers and social events, he was able to make connections with the researchers at the lab and got to know more about their individual research and accomplishments. With an instructor's aid, he improved his machine learning skills and knowledge of quantum systems. This week helped Veer to learn about the practical applications of various STEM fields, add to his knowledge, and help develop invaluable connections for next year's High School Research Program.
